What is UPHS management philosophy on how TCCH is integrated into the Health System?

Ralph W. Muller
CEO of the University of Pennsylvania Health System

Each of our hospitals, practices, home care/hospice is headed by a team of executives—who have the autonomy and authority to operate in a manner that is consistent with the needs of their patients and the communities they serve. The executive team structure at TCCH remains unchanged.

Our management philosophy is that we have entrusted entity leadership teams to do what’s right for their respective patient populations and the communities they serve—while maintaining a system perspective by:

  • Gaining operational efficiencies through system integration
  • Building patient programs that optimize access and use of all system entities
  • Eliminating unnecessary duplication of practices and processes to improve the overall value of care and services provided by Penn Medicine
